The Foundation for International Research on Working Children (IREWOC)

The Foundation for International Research on Working Children (IREWOC) conducts research on child labour issues on a global scale. It is unique in its use of anthropological qualitative research methods, providing in-depth knowledge of local perceptions, reasoning and opinions.
IREWOC research takes a child-centred and holistic approach, exploring children’s own views and opinions within the wider context of poverty and unequal development.
IREWOC research also involves a project impact analysis, whereby the activities and outcomes of existing projects on a local level are evaluated and assessed for their best practices.
IREWOC responds to the ever-increasing demand for policy-relevant knowledge. Research is conducted in close collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organisations active in the field of child labour. read more>>>>

IREWOC researcher Talinay Strehl began a new research project in November 2010, to be financed by Stichting Utopa. The project will conduct qualitative and quantitative research in The Netherlands to explore the extent and character of paid and unpaid work among school children aged 12-15 years old.

The "Street Children Project in Peru" has reached its conclusion. Read more about this project on our completed research page. We are hoping to expand this project into more countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Parties interested in collaborating should contact us on info@irewoc.nl

The final reports from this project can be downloaded from our publications page. You may cite the reports as long as IREWOC and all authors are correctly mentioned.

"Hazardous Child Labour in Latin America" is the most recent IREWOC publication, edited by G.K. Lieten. It will be available in 2011, published by Springer ( ISBN: 978-94-007-0176-2).
The book documents the living and working conditions of child labourers in a number of countries in Latin America, explores the true reasons why children are (still) working under harmful conditions, and identifies and analyses initiatives of governmental and non-governmental organisations to eliminate these worst forms of child labour.
