Marten van den Berge (1977), studied Cultural Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. He specialized in the Sociology of Development and Child Labour Issues.
In 2000 he rounded up his Masters with a comparative study on discourses on development within Dutch and Cuban NGOs, for which he did fieldwork in Cuba and the Netherlands.
Marten has been with IREWOC since early 2001 and has participated in the research projects on Child Agency
and Child Labour Unions. For these projects he did extensive sociological and anthropological fieldwork in
several city slums and rural villages in Bolivia, Peru and Brazil. Marten is now
the coordinator for a new IREWOC project on the Worst Forms of Child Labour in
Latin America,
which started in October 2006. In January 2007 research commenced in
Bolivia, Peru and Guatemala. The project will be finalized mid-2008. | ![]() |
