Afke de Groot
(1981) studied Cultural Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. She
received her master’s degree in September 2005. During her studies she
specialized in political and social concerns of South Asia. Her final research
was part of the IREWOC- project on ‘Nowhere Children’. She focused on the
reasons why children are not in school in rural areas of Rajasthan, India. She
joined IREWOC as a research associate in October 2005 and conducted fieldwork in
Pakistan and Nepal for the project on Deprived Children and Education, which was
completed in November 2007. She is currently involved with the project on the
Worst Forms of Child Labour in Asia, focusing on Nepal.
