Children who work in tanneries are employed without any form of contract. Their salaries, working hours and other conditions are determined by the employer. Most children start working without any salary. During this “apprenticeship” the employer determines his salary, which normally increases with time. There is, however, no standard duration for the apprenticeship. This 9 year old boy is being taught how to work in a tannery by slightly older boys.
